Grass-fed beef tastes different from conventional beef raised on grain. At Crooked Fork Farms, we’re changing the cow’s diet back to what it should be: grass. Cattle are designed to eat grass and here they do it well, helping us create healthier pastures along the way. with very few grain used when finishing.
The simplest way to describe the flavor of our Grass-fed Beef is that it has character. The flavor is earthy and rich, with subtle mineral notes. Grass-fed beef is naturally lean, so the marbling you’re used to seeing in conventional beef is less prevalent, although grass-fed fat content varies by cut and grind. Low and slow cooking is the key for buttery and tender grass-fed beef. We have grain finished options as well.
Our Grass-fed Beef is meat you can trust. When you eat beef from Crooked Fork Farms, you know that a package of beef comes from one cow with no antibiotics, no hormones and its completely free of additives unlike what you buy in the grocery store. All Crooked Fork Farms animals are processed locally at a nearby facility.
Our Herd- Our herd of cattle is a mixture of breeds mainly Black Angus with some Belted Galloway and other beef breeds. We are working to breed cows that are particularly suited to our land and Tennessee’s climate. Every calf born into Crooked Fork Farm’s herd is more suited to our environment than its parents were. Our ultimate vision is to create a “closed herd,” so that every cow on our pastures was born on our pastures, virtually eliminating the herd’s exposure to outside pathogens and creating the healthiest herd possible. This commitment to the health of our herd leads us to raise cattle differently than conventional farms because:
